You’ve got the grades and secured your firm choice university!

Well done! You have passed your exams and got the grades needed to get into your firm choice of university. You can check UCAS Track to see that your place has been confirmed. Look out for an email from your University containing details of how to confirm you place.

Congratulations!

You’ve got the grades and secured your insurance choice university!

Well done! You have passed your exams and got the grades needed to get into your insurance choice of university. You can check UCAS Track to see that your place has been confirmed. Look out for an email from your University containing details of how to confirm you place.

Congratulations!

You’ve just missed the grades and your place is still unconfirmed

So you just missed your grades, but your choice on UCAS Track hasn’t been changed to unsuccessful – what does that mean? It could mean that the University may still be waiting on some information from you – whether some results haven’t

gotten to them yet or you need to send in another piece of evidence. It could also mean that the university is waiting for everyone else’s results so that they can see if they have any vacancies to fit you onto the course. You need to ring the Clearing Hotline with your UCAS ID and find out the situation. However, if you have not met the grades then you might not be offered a place, so it is good to look at the Clearing listings to see if there is a similar course that has vacancies, and that you have met the grades for and to ring them up and find out if you are eligible.

You’ve missed the grades and your firm and insurance choice are unsuccessful

Unfortunately, for whatever reason, you haven’t got the grades that you were expecting. This can be difficult to handle, but remember that you are not alone! There are still opportunities for you to get to University. You will be automatically entered into Clearing, so it is important that you look at the Clearing lists and find a course you are interested in and ring up the hotline to talk to somebody from that academic school about the course. It can be disheartening not getting those grades, but it’s not the end of the world, and it definitely does not have to be the end of your university dreams!

The hotline number and information on Clearing can be found here – http://www.manchester.ac.uk/undergraduate/courses/clearing/

If on Clearing there are no vacancies that suit you, you can always take a gap year! You can work for a while, perhaps take resits if you need to, go travel, and reapply for entry next year.

Remember, whatever your situation tomorrow there are people here to help. So when you get your results, check UCAS Track, talk to your teachers/careers advisers at your School or College and if there is anything you are unsure about Manchester courses, ring us up on our hotline and we can advise you from there. Also, if you are looking at Clearing vacancies, always talk to your teachers, they can advise you on what is the best course of action to take if you are unsure.
